Your Superpower Didn't Come From A Strength | Roger Kastner

Ever wondered where your superpowers come from? Most superpowers don't start as strengths. They start as something missing. What was missing is what made your superpower. In this clip from our third-anniversary episode, host Roger Kastner shares the pattern he's seen across 80+ conversations: an unmet need from early in life, a talent discovered that attends to the unmet need, developed and nurtured, then becomes a true superpower is when you use it in service of other people.

Key takeaways
• Why most superpowers begin as an unmet need, not a gift
• The difference between a talent you use alone and a superpower you share
• How tending your own "missing piece" becomes service to others

Questions answered in this clip:
Q: Where do most people's superpowers come from?
A: Most superpowers start as an unmet need from early in life. Someone finds a talent that tends to that need, keeps doing it as part of healing, and it becomes a superpower the moment they do it in service of other people.
Q: When does a talent become a superpower?
A: A talent becomes a superpower when you use it in service of another person. Alone it remains a skill; in connection it becomes a superpower.

[Roger] Because a superpower by itself, you know, without relationship, is not really a superpower, it's just a power. In every conversation, empathy, curiosity, and connection comes through as people talk about their superpowers. I will occasionally joke about superheroes get to wear capes not because they're doing that thing for themselves. They are, but it's in service of other people that they actually, it becomes a superpower, and they become heroes. I think that not only helps other people live into their superpowers, but I think that's where our superpower begins to flourish. So I love the words that you use, the collective superpower. That's emergent for me, and it's also always been there because a superpower by itself, you know, without relationship, is not really a superpower, it's just a power."
